Sligro Food Group is a food wholesaler, and it doesn’t trade under one name. Sligro, De Kweker, Aan Tafel, Sligro-M, van Hoeckel and Java each have their own customers and their own look.
My part was the design system all six would share: fully tokenised, so that a brand is a set of values rather than a separate set of screens.
Nothing could be taken offline. Every brand kept trading throughout, so the system had to be built underneath running businesses rather than in front of them.
They weren’t standing on the same ground either. Some brands sat on a new backend and some on the old one, so a component had to work in both places without quietly becoming two components.

Every component was revisited in turn: what it was for, where it had drifted, and what it should be. Some were improved, some cut back, all brought onto the same tokens.
Pixel perfect was the standard the work was held to. Not as a flourish - a system that’s nearly right in six places is wrong in six places.

Six brands draw on the same system: Sligro, De Kweker, Aan Tafel, Sligro-M, van Hoeckel and Java.
